Concerts In New Zealand

Berkdrums An incredible overview of Rudy’s talent to mix different ambient-styles in these live-recordings! Soft soundwaves, fieldrecordings, throat-singing, a lot of great rhythmic loops in Berlin-school parts that I really enjoy (I’m not a huge fan of really busy Berlin-school tracks, but the way it’s used by Rudy here I really like it..) For what it’s worth: I also like the way artists like Steve Roach, Hollan Holmes, Craig Padilla and Erik Wøllo use it. Rudy also showcases himself here as a talented soloist on the synths with a lot of really nice improvisation that push the tracks forward. The collaboration with flutist Nick Prosser works wonders.. His incredible flute-technique, feel and improvisation-talent work so well with the soundpaintings of Rudy. Bravo Rudy and Nick!, thank you for this unique album that is so refreshing and varied!

about

Live recordings of two concerts held at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery in 2000 and 2001. Nearly all the music is unique to this album, however an alternative performance of track 6 was released as "Cloud Burst" on the album "Desert Realms". The music was performed live with no backing tapes and minimal pre-programmed sequencing. Only a dozen simple single-channel "patterns" were pre-programmed into the SY77's sequencer. The polyphonic quality of the performance stems from a 4-second digital delay plus the application of sustain pedal across MIDI channels. Special thanks to Robyn Notman for organising these concerts.
